DT Michael Bennett Is Among Rookies On the Road to Greatness

Michael Bennett may have been a sixth round draft pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t going to be something special.

Among the biggest steals in the 2015 NFL Draft, Bennett played bigger than his draft stock all through college. He’s going to continue that with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The NFL recently went through the rookies that are on the road to greatness (whatever that means) and Michael Bennett was among the seven players they selected to highlight. Now injured defensive end Dante Fowler, also of the Jacksonville Jaguars, was atop the same list.

Here’s what the article had to say:

"Top-tier talent is usually off the board by Round 6, but there are still quite a few players that remain for a litany of reasons. Michael Bennett, a 6-foot-2, 293-pounder was one of the big fallers. Draft prognosticators indicated that the Ohio State University three-technique defensive tackle was a “scheme specific” player. Bennett now has the opportunity to shake away from that designation and play a helping hand in the upstart Jaguars’ defensive overhaul. In 49 games (30 starts) for the Buckeyes, Bennett tallied 111 tackles, 18 sacks and 31.5 tackles for loss."

We’ve already discussed the fact that Bennett can really play, but it’s also important to highlight how he can be effective with the Jaguars. He’ll be coming in to be a rotational guy at first, among a deep position for the Jaguars. That may play to his advantage as it will give him a chance to get his feet wet in the NFL and learn to adapt to the roles he will be expected to play. A 4-3, 3-technique player, Bennett should find success during his snaps with the Jaguars as he won’t have to adjust his game too much.

We here at B&T love Michael Bennett coming to Jacksonville and think he can be a guy that head coach Gus Bradley has fun with in his defensive scheme. Bradley will find ways for him to be successful, have no doubt. If that leads t him being on the “road to greatness” then all the better!
