2015 NFL Power Rankings: Jaguars Last, Despite Big Offseason

Premature 2015 NFL Power Rankings are already floating about and the one over at Fox Sports is particularly egregious.

Well, it is if you’re a Jacksonville Jaguars fan.

Despite a bountiful free agent period and plenty of positive things coming out of Jacksonville, the guys over at Fox have the Jaguars last in their 2015 NFL Power Rankings released today. Here’s what they had to say:

"The Jaguars were very active in free agency and made major improvements on both sides of the ball. However, there are still major question marks about their offensive personnel, and that is a worrisome sign for young QB Blake Bortles, who already struggled with pock presence."

I respectively have to disagree. Blake Bortles had excellent presence, it’s just that too often he found himself face down in the dirt. With those “major improvements” in free agency, the Jaguars front office addressed that issue. For some reason, that is overlooked.

Now, power rankings certainly shouldn’t be taken as gospel, but after a strong offseason it is surprising to see the Jags behind a number of other teams, chief among them being the Tennessee Titans. The Titans were definitely worse last season and they haven’t had  a very strong offseason. Similarly, the Cleveland Browns and Tampa Bay Buccaneers aren’t exactly doing great either.

I suppose it is a sign of the times that I’m talking about a minor power ranking with no real bearing on the 2015 Jacksonville Jaguars season. We who follow the Jaguars know that things are trending upward and they are likely further ahead than their peers (those other low-performing teams), but the Jags continue to get a lack of recognition from national media.

Maybe a winning season (or at least .500?) would change that in 2015.
