It’s no secret I love Big 10 players and there are a host of great Big 10 running backs in the 2015 NFL Draft. By adding David Cobb, the Jaguars are pairing him with former Michigan QB Denard Robinson in the backfield and they will have a scarily competent running back committee with Cobb, Robinson, Bernard Pierce, Storm Johnson, and fullback/tailback Toby Gerhart. Another Senior Bowl player, the Jaguars know what Cobb can do close up and I think they’ll like what they see enough to gamble on him as he tumbles to the fourth round.
He’s a bell-cow back who can handle a large number of carries and still be productive. With complements from Robinson and other running backs, he’ll stay fresh and he’ll be able to put together strong performances for the Jaguars. He had over 1200 yards each of the last two seasons and put together 20 touchdowns over those two years as well. He’s a proven runner at a high level in the college ranks (and let’s keep in mind Minnesota isn’t exactly the greatest football team in their conference) and he looks to transition well to the NFL. He’ll bring a physical approach to the running game that was sorely lacking in 2014.
