Jaguars Locked into Dante Fowler Jr. at Number 3?

The Jacksonville Jaguars are once again at a crossroads with the third overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. Last year they threw the draft world into disarray by choosing quarterback Blake Bortles with the third pick, but analysts are singing a different tune this year. The draft community almost unanimously has the Jaguars taking Florida pass rusher Dante Fowler Jr. at number three, and it’s become a discussion whether or not he’s a shoo-in for the Jags.

Elliot Harrison over at NFL.com was pondering a similar thing, and he seems to prefer the Jaguars trading out of that spot if they can:

"Jacksonville Jaguars: Is there any way the Jags don’t draft Dante Fowler Jr.?Jacksonville has been linked to the pass rusher out of Florida so many times it’s beginning to seem like a foregone conclusion. Well, maybe not if a team like the Browns offers GM David Caldwell a sweetheart deal for the third overall spot to leapfrog the Redskins and Jets, both of whom could be looking to replace their young, disappointing quarterbacks. Would love to see Jacksonville acquire as many talented players as possible, so the team can stop picking in the top five."

I absolutely would not be shocked if the Jaguars decided to trade down given a sweet enough deal. The depth at the top of this draft class lies at pass rusher, arguably the Jaguars biggest need moving forward. If the Tennessee Titans opt to go in a different direction and pass on Marcus Mariota at 2, the Jaguars should probably receive a few phone calls from some of the teams Harrison mentioned.

While I wouldn’t be upset if the Jaguars snagged Fowler up at number 3, I would be fairly excited to see them move down and acquire more picks. Caldwell has shown a penchant for finding contributors in the mid-to-late rounds, and the Jaguars certainly could use more talent across the board.
