2015 NFL Mock Draft: Only One QB Taken In First 3

2015 NFL Mock Drafts were flying pre-free agency and some of them had some bold predictions. For the weekly mock at Fansided, it’s that only one QB will be taken in the first three picks.

That’s no Eagles trading up for Marcus Mariota. That’s the Tennessee Titans passing on Mariota as well in favor of the best player in the 2015 NFL Draft: Leonard Williams.

Those moves, leave the Jacksonville Jaguars with drafting the next-best pass rusher in the 2015 NFL Draft: Randy Gregory.

Here’s what Fansided Editor-in-Chief Josh Sanchez had to say:

"Gus Bradley knows all about the importance of a stellar defensive line from his time with the Seattle Seahawks, so it would not be a surprise to see him address the defensive side of the ball early in the 2015 NFL Draft. In Randy Gregory, the Jaguars would get a rare physical specimen who knows how to get after the passer. While there is still plenty of room for Gregory to continue developing his skills, he has a very high ceiling and is a player that can build on his potential to become one of the premier edge rushers in the NFL."

In light of the wheeling and dealing that Chip Kelly has done in free agency so far, I think it’s definitely possible that he’s setting the Eagles up to make a trade into the upper first round to nab Mariota, but if he doesn’t it’s perfectly fine for the Jaguars to grab Gregory.

I couldn’t agree more with Sanchez about how Bradley intends to build the team and how Gregory would fit in. The Jags are all about going after players with high potential to improve the team. Some of those freakishly raw prospects develop into the best overall players for a team. Randy Gregory fits that kind of mold.

While he wasn’t the top NFL Scouting Combine performer and while he isn’t the best at his position overall, Gregory brings a legitimate pass rush to the Jags on each and every down. That is nearly invaluable in the NFL and he’ll be rewarded for it as the third overall pick in this 2015 NFL Mock Draft.
