Julius Thomas Studied Blake Bortles, Will Work With Him in California
By Daniel Lago
The Jacksonville Jaguars opened up their wallet this weekend, acquiring a handful of big time free agents before the signing period even opened on Tuesday. Their most high profile addition was Pro Bowl tight end Julius Thomas. After amassing 24 touchdowns in two seasons with Peyton Manning as his quarterback, Thomas decided to sign with Jacksonville and team up with Blake Bortles as he heads into his second year in the NFL. If you believe Thomas, he spent some time looking at Bortles before choosing the Jaguars.
While it’s rather dubious to think Thomas made his decision to come to Jacksonville on the merits of Bortles and his ability to develop into a franchise quarterback, it’s encouraging to see that Thomas isn’t afraid to team up with the young signal caller.
Thomas isn’t wasting any time getting familiar with Bortles either, as he plans to work out with Blake in California as early as next week.
"“He invited me to come out to Southern California next week,” Thomas said. “I live there, so it won’t be a too much of a hassle to get out there and really start working on it…He’s excited to have me… He’s excited about us growing together. I hear so much about his skill set and how much he wants to be great. I’m going to do everything I can to help him out with that. His size and mobility and arm strength are all things that will help him be very successful in this league. I’m ready to give him the knowledge that I’ve gleaned from others. I’m anxious to work with him and build that rapport.”"
Thomas is saying all the right things so far, we’ll say how that translates onto the field this fall.
