Jaguars Offensive Line Suspect in Victory Over Giants

The Jacksonville Jaguars snagged their second victory of the season from right in front of the New York Giants in a thrilling 25-24 win. But the Jaguars offensive line had one of its worst performances in franchise history and it felt like the worst performance (week two will forever loom in our memories, though).

More from Black and Teal

The Jaguars offensive line managed to let Blake Bortles take seven(!) sacks against the Giants. In addition, the Giants managed to hit Bortles eight times. It’s a miracle the young quarterback managed to even complete a handful of passes, much less the 21 he put together in the game.

This week can be directly compared to week two’s franchise worst 10 sacks allowed against the Washington Redskins. The Jaguars offensive line has seen some changes since then (and rightly so) but the team has still struggled at times despite mostly righting the ship.

Today was one of the days where they struggled.

While we can compare it to the week two problem (10 sacks allowed, 18 hits) the sad thing is that this offensive line performance isn’t the worst we’ve seen this season. Week two was a lot worse. Yet despite changes and despite some improved play for the most part, we still have games like today where our rookie quarterback gets taken to the turf over and over.

Games like today where our offense can’t move the ball because defenders are in the quarterback’s face.

The Jaguars offensive line continues to underperform – especially 2013 first round pick Luke Joeckel – and that needs to be addressed in the offseason. Their play was suspect today and I doubt they will manage to turn it around at any point in the final four games. I’d love to see them do so, but there have been enough changes made at this point that the team will have to use the final four games to evaluate and figure out where they need to patch holes this offseason.

There are plenty of holes to be patched.
