Indianapolis Colts Brutalize Jacksonville Jaguars
By Luke Sims
It took a while for things to get going, but after a close first half the Indianapolis Colts put the hurt on the Jacksonville Jaguars. What was just a three point deficit at halftime, evolved into 20-3 at the end of the third.

The Jaguars were competitive early, largely because of their stalwart defense. Unfortunately, they broke down in the second half, unable to keep up with the Colts offense. Part of the problem is the Jaguars’ offense, which failed to put anything together all game.
The defense did the best it could to give the offense opportunities. At halftime the Jaguars had five sacks with five forced fumbles, three of which they recovered. The offense just couldn’t put anything together.
The running game fell apart, with Denard Robinson averaging less than two yards per carry, having his 25 yards eclipsed by former starter Toby Gerhart with just four carries for the latter. It wasn’t necessarily Robinson’s fault, either. The Colts came into the game knowing they were going to force the Jaguars to pass, stacking the box against Robinson.
Blake Bortles couldn’t respond.
Either Bortles has lost confidence in himself or offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch has lost confidence in Bortles. Either consideration is terrifying for the Jaguars fan base that enjoyed seeing Bortles sling it in his initial 2014 action. Bortles only seemed willing to toss the ball to the flat, giving Robinson and Gerhart plenty of yards receiving, but completing just five passes to three different wide receivers.
Bortles finished the day with less than 200 yards passing for the second time this season. His completion percentage was buffed by the easy passes in the flats to his running backs. He finished the day 15 of 27 for 146 yards and an early interception.
The inept offensive play led to short drives, with only two longer than six plays and none of those ending in points. This led to more time on the field for the defense.
In the end, the Colts offense came alive, as we all knew it would. The Colts came away victors 23-3, sweeping the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2014.
