Third Round: Jimmy Garoppolo, QB, Eastern Illinois

I know there will be people out there who will be ready to jump off the Matthews Bridge if Jacksonville doesn’t take a QB until the third round, but it could happen.  There has been much said regarding this position ever since Jacksonville’s season ended last December. Khan has alluded to the team taking two. Caldwell and Bradley don’t believe there is a QB who is talented enough to come in day one and start.

When it comes to young quarterbacks, it’s best for them to come in, sit, and learn. That’s why Chad Henne was re-signed as a stop gap, veteran bridge QB. Garoppolo has seen his stock rise ever since the East-West Shrine Game. He played his way onto the Senior Bowl roster the following week. I like what he was able to do at Eastern Illinois. The small school competition doesn’t scare me one bit. He has the physical tools to get the job done, and given some time to sit and learn the pro game, he’d be a solid investment.
