Allen Robinson fantasy football ceiling should be raised
By Luke Sims
Allen Robinson fantasy football owners will be pleased to see just how capable he looked in his preseason debut.
Those wise fantasy football owners that took the Allen Robinson fantasy hype for real in 2015 were rewarded with 1400 yards and 14 touchdowns. That’s the kind of play that can be expected from a top wide receiver option.
But things could get even more staggering in 2016.
It isn’t just Robinson’s three catches for 80 yards that were impressive, or even the fact that those catches were downright unbelievable. What was impressive about Robinson’s preseason debut is that he made it look so easy, so normal.
It was as if to say that the big plays that Robinson provided are to be expected of him now.
In just year three, this is a player who is making the extraordinary look perfectly normal. He’s making tough catches look like another day at the office.
Even more importantly, his quarterback, Blake Bortles, has recognized this and is willing to give Robinson a shot at almost any ball. Throw it in Robinson’s direction and he’ll make a play, that’s the Bortles way.
Currently ranked seventh over at ESPN’s fantasy football wide receiver rankings, it could be tough to argue that Robinson will rise much higher than that. Then again, he really impressed in those three catches and he was immensely impressive in 2015 as well, hinting toward a level of all-time greatness unmatched by other Jacksonville Jaguars receivers.
His ceiling could be much higher than seventh at his position.
Last year, the NFL receiving landscape was dominated by Antonio Brown, Julio Jones, and DeAndre Hopkins. This year, Robinson could join their ranks or even supplant one of them to join the top three. This isn’t just optimistic hope from a Jags website, either. This is something that could be very, very real for the millions of fantasy football teams across the nation.
