And just like that, the Jacksonville Jaguars have wrapped up a week of training camp. Granted, they had two days off, but they've already had six practices and are close to facing the Pittsburgh Steelers in the preseason opener.
Now, all phases of the offseason are important, but training camp allows teams to assess players in pads. In the case of the Jags, this is particularly important because they want to get the running game going, an area where they struggled the past two years.
Similarly, this is Liam Coen's first year at the helm, and Jacksonville's success or lack thereof in 2025 will depend on whether he prepares the team properly. This begs the question: Which Jaguars have stood out in the early portion of training camp? Which ones have seen their stock plummet?
With that in mind, here are the winners and losers from the first week of Jaguars training camp:
Jaguars winner: Travis Hunter
Heading into training camp, there were doubts about whether Travis Hunter could handle the workload. This might've been a valid concern because he will play both ways for the Jaguars, but so far, he's had no trouble with everything the Jaguars have put on his plate.
In Hunter's own words, it's just a bit extra, and it doesn't seem like it's been overwhelming. Quite the contrary, as he's showcased his big-play capability at receiver and corner. At this pace, he'll be ready to make an impact on both sides of the ball in Week 1.
Jaguars Loser: Montaric Brown
After a switch in scheme and a strong offseason, Montaric Brown was making a bid to earn a featured role next season. Unfortunately, he won't be available for the remainder of training camp after suffering a leg injury.
Now, the former Arkansas Razorback will have to take a backseat and watch fellow cornerbacks Jarrian Jones and DeAntre Prince get reps that would've otherwise gone to him. Sure, Brown will return for the regular season, but by then, he might have tubmped down the depth chart.
Jaguars Winner: Tank Bigsby
This year's most intriguing battle for the Jaguars is taking place at running back. Currently, the team's brass has three compelling options, and all of them entered training camp with a realistic chance to be the top option in the running game. However, one of them appears to have separated himself from the rest.
Tank Bigsby is getting the biggest workload of the three and has made the most out of it. While he still has his work cut out as a pass-catcher, he's shown the big-play capability that helped him turn heads in 2024.
While Bhaushul Tuten or Travis Etienne could narrow down the gap, Bigsby seems to have somewhat of a comfortable lead.
Jaguars Loser: Bhayshul Tuten
You could make the case that there's an element of randomness to injury, but the last thing a player wants is to miss time, especially rookies, because they get hurt. Such is the case of first-year running back Bhayshul Tuten.
After an encouraging start to training camp, the former Virginia Tech Hokie has sat out the last few practices with a hamstring injury. It doesn't seem to be serious, and he should be back in the fold sooner rather than later. However, his absence will make him lose ground against Travis Etienne and Tank Bigsby.
Jaguars Winner: Anton Harrison
Things are always fluid in the offseason. Just because a player struggled in mandatory minicamp doesn't mean that he won't be able to turn the corner. Similarly, you might've had a strong outing in the offseason, but once it's time to put the pads on, you disappear. Fortunately for the Jags, Anton Harrison experience the first scenario.
Harrison struggled in 2024 and was inconsistent throughout most of the offseason program. That led head coach Liam Coen and offensive line coach Shaun Sarrett to call him out and make him split reps with free-agent acquisition Chuma Edoga. It might've struck a chord, as the third-year offensive tackle has made noticeable strides.
Credit where credit is due, and Harrison rose up to the team's call.
