The Minnesota Vikings lost to the Los Angeles Rams on Thurdsay Night Football. On top of that, left tackle Christian Darrisaw suffered a season-ending injury. Fortunately for the Vikes, the Jacksonville Jaguars have a more than capable replacement to fill his shoes.
Darrisaw suffered a knee injury before halftime. Adam Schefter of ESPN reported after the game that the former Virginia Tech Hokie suffered a season-ending injury. Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell told the press corps that it was a torn ACL and MCL.
Darrisaw is a key cog on the Minnesota offensive line, giving up just two sacks and 10 total pressures this season. On top of that, he was one of the best-run blockers in the NFL, according to Pro Football Focus.
Given that the Vikings are 5-2 and looking for the highest playoff seed possible, they'll surely look for ways to fill the void left by Robinson's absence. Robinson definitely fits the bill. Although he gave up a concerning four sacks and 13 tackles the first three games of the season, he's given up just three total pressures the past four weeks. His improved play has coincided with the Jaguars' increased productivity on offense.
If the Jags chosed to trade Robinson to Minnesota or somewhere else, Walker Little would take his place at left tackle. A second-round pick in the 2021 draft, the former Stanford Cardinal has made 17 starts throughout his career. Like Robinson, he's set to become a free agent next year.
Cam Robison could help the Vikings overcome Christian Darrisaw's injury
Throughout the offseason Cam Robinson was part of trade chatter. This makes sense when you take into account that moving on from him would've freed up $17 million in cap space. On top of that, the Jacksonville Jaguars have a capable in-house replacement in Walker Little. Ultimately, they chose to keep Robinson around. Maybe they didn't get an offer to their liking. However, Christian Darrisaw's injury could drive up the Jaguars' asking price.
Keep in mind that the New York Giants also lost left tackle Andrew Thomas, so there could suddenly be a couple of legitimate suitors vying for Robinson's service. Depending on the market, Jacksonville could probably ask for a third-round pick.
In the end, the Jacksonville Jaguars have options when it comes to Cam Robinson. If they don't think he's part of their long-term plans, they might as well trade him. The Minnesota Vikings would be the ideal partner. On the other hand, the Jags could hold onto him if they think he can help them get on the right track.
