Tyson Campbell's injury may not be serious (but Jaguars could be in trouble)

• No reason to panic (yet).

The Jacksonville Jaguars are dealing with several injuries at cornerback. After losing Montaric Brown early in training camp, they placed Levi Wallace on Injured Reserve. And heading into Week 2 of the preseason, Tyson Campbell didn't participate in practice.

It's never good when two of your top corners suffer injuries and have to miss time. The silver lining is that Campbell's injury doesn't appear to be serious and should soon be back in practice.

What did Jaguars head coach say about Tyson Cambpbell?

Head coach Liam Coen met with the local media after Day 13 of training camp and said that Tyson Campbell is day-to-day. He also added that Antonio Harrison didn't show up to practice for personal reasons.

Tyson is just day to day," Coen responded when asked about Campbell. "And Anton had an excused personal absence."

Later in the exchange, Coen said that injuries to Campbell and Montaric Brown won't change the team's plans or how they deploy Travis Hunter.

"We'll continue to do what we've been doing out here, where it's offense, defense, offense, defense, getting reps on both sides of the ball throughout the course of practice. And maybe, I think he's going to be primarily more on defense tomorrow and subbing in a little on offense, and then Thursday, and in the scrimmage, he'll do both as well again. "

Campbell suited up for the preseason opener and logged nine snaps on defense. He didn't seem to get hurt after the game.

How does Tyson Campbell's absence affect the Jaguars?

For the moment, there's no reason for concern. If Tyson Campbell is day-to-day, it doesn't make sense to press him into action. Instead, the Jacksonville Jaguars need to let him rest and give preseason snaps to their younger cornerbacks.

Zech McPhearson, DeAntre Prince, and undrafted free agent Aydan White — he was brought back after Levi Wallace landed on IR — could use reps. Christian Braswell could also use Campbell's absence to solidify his case to make the 53-man roster.

On the other hand, Campbell's absence could test the team's depth at cornerback. Montaric Brown remains week-to-week with a leg injury, which is why Jacksonville might've signed Wallace to begin with.

With Campbell out of the mix, Jarrian Jones, Jourdan Lewis, and Travis Hunter are the top cornerbacks. That's not a bad starting trio, but the bottom of the depth chart lacks experience, and the team could be in trouble if any of their young players have extended playing time.

The good news is that Tyson Campbell is expected to return, but the Jags should err on the side of caution and consider adding depth in the upcoming days.
