Tyson Campbell and special teamers highlight final Jaguars injury report for Week 14
There's no uncertainty surrounding Trevor Lawrence's status for Week 14. The fourth-year quarterback suffered a concussion the game prior and has landed on Injury Reserve. On the other hand, the Jacksonville Jaguars aren't sure cornerback Tyson Campbell and a couple of special teamers will be available against the Tennesee Titans.
Campbell, along with long-snapper Ross Matiscik and punter Logan Cooke, got the questionable designation in the final injury report for Week 14. Head coach Doug Pederson met with the local media Friday and said that the team would see how the trio did in practice before making a decision on them.
Both those guys will practice today," Pederson told the local media when asked about Cooke and Matiscik. "Let's see what Parker both practice today and should be okay. See where Tyson is today. He's kind of been limited all week, but expect him to practice and we'll see after practice today."
Matiscik and Cooke hadn't practiced before Friday and appeared on the injury report the prior two days. In case they aren't good to go, the Jags announced that they signed punter Matt Haack and long snapper Tucker Addington as insurance.
Aside from Addington and Haack, the Jags also added John Wolford to their practice squad. This makes sense when you take into account that Lawrence won't be available for at least four games. Speaking of the fourth-year quarterback, Pederson says that he'll undergo shoulder surgery once he clears concussion protocol.
"He has to clear the protocol first before you can't... obviously do surgery with a guy in concussion protocol, so we're going to make sure that's cleared first before anything scheduled," Pederson told the press corps.
Without Lawrence, Mac Jones will be starting behind center and C.J. Beathard will be the primary backup. If Jacksonville wants to dress Walford in Week 14, or any other game, they'll need to promote him to the active roster via standard elevation.
If Campbell doesn't play against the Titans, Montaric Brown and Ronald Darby will be the starting cornerbacks in the boundaries. Below is the full injury report. As you can see, sophomore linebacker Yasir Abdullah is also listed as questionable with a hamstring injury.
On the opposite sideline, cornerback Roger McCreary (shoulder), defensive tackle T'Vondre Sweat, linebacker Kenneth Murray (hamstring), wide receiver Tyler Boyd (foot), linebacker James Williams (knee), offensive lineman Leroy Watson IV (back), defensive back Jarvis Brownlee Jr. (hip), linebacker Jerome Baker (neck), and defensive lineman James Lynch (shoulder) were listed as questionable.
On the other hand, offensive lineman Jaylen Duncan (hamstring), and offensive guard Logan Bruss (knee) have been already ruled out for Week 14.
The Jaguars will need a handful of players to step up vs. the Titans
Montaric Brown and Ronald Darby have been inconsistent this season. However, they won't be the only players the Jacksonville Jaguars will need to step up against the Tennessee Titans. Heading into the game, they claimed wide receiver Josh Reynolds off waivers and will need him to contribute right off the bat.
With Christian Kirk and Gabe Davis on Injured Reserve, the Jags need a receiver opposite Brian Thomas Jr. to make plays. Parker Washington is also in the mix but he'll man the slot. Reynolds could fill the hole in the boundaries.
Mac Jones, on the other hand, must build from his performance against the Houston Texans. Although he got off to a slow start, he got better as the game progressed, completing 62.5 percent of his throws for 235 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions. Working in his favor is that the offensive line is in relatively good shape. Sure, right guard Brandon Scherff landed on the injury report but he's good to go.
On defense, the Jaguars may want to keep giving Maason Smith playing time and leave Arik Armstead inside. That approach proved to be effective against the Texans and could also work against Tennessee's depleted offensive line.
At 2-10, the Jaguars will be looking to finish the season strong. Despite the injuries, they'll have a chance to beat the Titans in Week 14.
