Trevor Lawrence was wrong to kneel down for the right reason in Jaguars' Week 3 win

Fantasy Football owners might have lost their minds watching the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 3. Leading 28-6 in the fourth quarter, Trevor Lawrence broke off a run that would have been a touchdown if he hadn't kneeled at the one-yard line. Running back Bhayshul Tuten punched the ball into the end zone one play later to make it 35-6.

Looking back, Lawrence's decision may have made sense if it had been a close game and Jacksonville needed to give the Patriots as little time as possible to score. That wasn't the case, though.

The silver lining is that Lawrence's call didn't affect the outcome of the game. Moreover, he gifted a touchdown to Tuten. So unless you are the Patriots or had Trevor Lawrence on your fantasy team, you may not have been thrilled with the decision. Either way, No. 16 revealed after the game what went through his mind at the time.

Trevor Lawrence says he wanted to eat up the clock when he kneeled

Trevor Lawrence met with the local media after the Jaguars' win over the Patriots. He stated that he thought there was less time on the clock when he stopped at New England's one-yard line. Here's the exchange:

"Yeah, I was, the whole drive, was trying to put together a good drive, but it was four minutes, though. So we got down there, when I broke free and no one tackled me, it was just something we talk about all the time, potentially, in those situations, going down, keeping the clock running," Lawrence told reporters after the game (2:40 mark). "That was too much time. Looking, I saw I looked at the clock after, 'I'm like, still eight minutes left.' So it's probably unnecessary there."

Lawrence continued, "But just trying to eat as much clock as possible. Use the timeout after that. Trying to give them as few chances as possible to get back in the game. So, but if you do the analytics, people will probably be all over it online. I'm sure it probably wasn't the best decision, but we scored the next play. So whatever, get Bhayshul a touchdown. That's cool. Let him get in the end zone.

With the outcome pretty much decided, Quinn Ewers entered the football field for backup duty on Jacksonville's last offensive drive. This was the first time he was active for game day since he was traded to the Jags at the roster cutdown deadline.

Lawrence, for his part, was 19-of-29 for 182 yards with three touchdowns and one interception. His pick, though, was a well-placed pass that went through tight end Brenton Strange's hands. He also overthrew Parker Washington once in the end zone but found him a couple plays later, so you can make the case that the former Clemson Tiger had a strong outing.

Trevor Lawrence helped Bhayshul Tuten's fantasy managers

Circling back to Trevor Lawrence's decision, you may not have been enthused if you were managing a fantasy team. Conversely, those who had Bhayshul Tuten in their lineup were surely pleased.

Either way, it's not the kind of thing that has an effect on the real world, which is hilarious, because the rumor surfaced on social media that he wanted to help those who bet on him to throw under four touchdown passes. There's simply no time for that kind of nonsense. The veteran quarterback did say after the game that he wanted to help Tuten's fantasy people. But even then, he was seemingly joking.

Ultimately, what matters is that Trevor Lawrence's didn't have a negative effect on the outcome of the game, and the Jaguars won. For the time being, they can celebrate their victory and start preparations in a couple days to face the Cincinnati Bengals.
