Quarterback Trevor Lawrence got a bit of a slow start to training camp, but the Jacksonville Jaguars didn't fret, and why would they? The former Clemson Tiger was coming back from a serious shoulder injury he sustained last year. Couple that with the fact that he made tweaks to his footwork, and it's understandable that he was going to have some rough practices. Having said that, he's now hit his stride and is wasting no time rebuilding his stock.

Mia O'Brien of ESPN reported that Lawrence has been notably sharper the past few practices, pointing out that he was in the zone on Day 5. Here's the skinny.

"Trevor Lawrence was as dialed in as we've seen him -- ditto to the second team period and WR/DBs 1-on-1's," O'Brien reported. "BTJ with strong reps vs. Tyson Campbell (Tyson almost decapitated Travis Hunter in team lol)."

On a related note, O'Brien argues that this is the most intense she's seen the Jaguars practice in a while.

"I say this with the utmost respect: the first team period today was easily the most juiced I have seen a Offense in practice in years. Liam Coen echoed this: "offense set the tone in the run game and carried it through," O'Brien reported.

O'Brien had previously reported that Lawrence was up and down early in training camp, but he looked comfortable in two-minute drills by Day 4.

Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence is making progress (but he has a long way to go)

All things considered, it's encouraging to see Trevor Lawrence make strides. Coming off a pair of underwhelming seasons, he's under pressure to deliver, so he needs to take advantage of all the reps he can get ahead of the regular season.

Working in Lawrence's favor is that he's recovered from the shoulder injury (and subsequent surgery) he had last year and is the healthiest he's been in a while. Head coach Liam Coen, for his part, believes the fifth-year quarterback still has room for improvement but is pleased with his progress so far.

"Ultimately, even when you have your right foot up as a quarterback, you're slightly moving your left as a punch step. And so if you just flip it, and we call it goofy foot, and put your left foot up, and you punch first, it's very it's just this. It's very similar, " Coen responded when asked about Lawrence's footwork on Day 5 of training camp. "It's just which foot is up first from a rhythm standpoint. But no, it's new for him. So yeah, it is a development, for sure."

Coen continues, "And so it's something that, you know, it was his decision. He wanted to do it when he came to us in the spring, or, you know, in the wintertime. And, you know, it's kind of a trend with a lot of the guys in the NFL going the left foot up. It's just a comfort thing, and helps with some of the rhythm and the quick game, and some of the on-time and in-rhythm passing. So definitely a work in progress still, but I thought he had a better day today."

Coen's comments about Lawrence start at the 3:57 mark. You can watch his whole exchange with the press corps below.

Just recently, the Jaguars head coach made an appearance on 1010XL and said that Lawrence hasn't always been put in a position to succeed, but quarterbacks are ultimately judged by their wins and losses.

This means that Trevor Lawrence can do nothing but continue to show up to practice and keep putting in the work. If he does, he'll be in a position to win games next season.
