The Jacksonville Jaguars are still processing the crushing loss to the Buffalo Bills, and understandably so. Not many analysts expect them to win more than eight games, let alone 13, in 2025, but their successful season just came to an abrupt end. Now, they'll have to wait until September to get back on the field and play meaningful football games.
The good news is that the Jags have a talented core in place and the head coach to pick up where they left off and return to the playoffs. Trevor Lawrence knows they have their work out but has a positive outlook ahead of the offseason.
Trevor Lawrence if proud of what the Jaguars accomplished in 2025
Trevor Lawrence met with the local media and said that the season didn't end the way the team expected, but he was proud of the work everyone put in.
"Yeah, it was a tough way to end this year. It's been a fun year, and it's hard to kind of describe it," Lawrence told the media (7;10 mark). "I guess, put the right words to it, just because there's so much work that's put into any season. And then you look at the year we've had, and some of the adversity, and just the way we finished the year, and the confidence we were playing with, and then for it to end. It just ends so suddenly."
Lawrence continued, "When you hit the game like that, and you think you're going to keep rolling, and you're planning on playing next week, and it's playoff football, and you got to close out those games. And we weren't able to do it today, and they made a few more plays than us. So that part's disappointing, but just the group, the feelings towards this team and the coaching staff, it's been a lot of fun. It's been awesome working with everyone."
Later in his exchange, Lawrence made it clear that he doesn't know how things will play out next year but is confident that he and his teammates will be up to the challenge.
"You got to earn it every year. So I'm not going to say that there's no guarantee. There's no guaranteed success in this business or in this league. You got to earn it every week. We're gonna have to take some time. We're gonna have to have a great offseason and get back into it in a few months, and prepare the right way. And it's going to be a new team, a new journey that we got to go on. We got to earn it every week. So there's no guaranteed success. But I do feel like this is sustainable," Lawrence said.
"The things that we're doing, I know, offensively and defensively. I mean, just both sides of the ball, had a hell of a year, and when it got down to the end where we finished, and the growth that we that we had, and I know what we're doing offensively, I feel like I got it, you know, complete ownership over it, and mastered it as the year went on. Have a lot of confidence in the players, coaches, like I said. So I do feel like it's sustainable, but you have to earn it every year. It's not just going to happen."
After a slow start to the season, Lawrence hit his stride and finished the season strong, completing 63.0 percent of his throws for 1,600 yards with 15 touchdowns and just one interception. Similarly, the Jags rode an eight-game winning streak to end the season.

The Jaguars have the foundation to return to the playoffs in 2026
Trevor Lawrence most definitely has reasons to feel optimistic about 2026. With another year in Liam Coen's system, he should be even better. The same is true for midseason acquisition Jakobi Meyers, who immediately fixed the team's drop issues. If that wasn't enough, Coen will continue to set the tone and won't let players get complacent.
Of course, the Jaguars will also face several challenges. They'll need to find ways to keep as many free agents as they can and replenish the roster once again. Their pass rush and their cornerback group, in particular, could use upgrades.
But even if you take all the hurdles into account, the Jaguars have the talent, the head coach, and now the experience to make the playoffs for the second consecutive season.
