Even though the Jacksonville Jaguars were off to a solid start to 2025, they couldn't get their offense going. Drops, in particular, held them back. It wasn't until they traded for Jakobi Meyers that they managed to hit their stride.
Meyers turned out to be a valuable target despite the fact that he joined the Jags at the midpoint of the year. He'll now get to enjoy a full offseason, but nobody will bat an eye if he's capable of putting even better numbers in 2026. Trevor Lawrence thinks he can pull it off.
Jakobi Meyers can have an even bigger impact for the Jaguars in 2026
Trevor Lawrence met with the local media and stated that Jakobi Meyers will benefit from spending a full offseason in Jacksonville, noting that the eight-year receiver should have no trouble picking up where he left off.
"For him, being able to be here with the guys through a whole offseason to get that work, one me and him, that chemistry to continue to build on that. We had to try to pick it up midseason, which is a lot of credit to him. He was really easy to get in sync with. He was super hard worker, so we got it going pretty quickly. But that can be hard to do. So now to have a full offseason together, and I think just the relationship piece to be able to hang out with his teammates, and get to spend time together, and have the weekends and be here and get to know your teammates."
Lawrence continued, "I think that's a big piece of it, too. And get comfortable where you're living, he moved here in November and just came and played with us, I guess, a few days later in Houston. So it was kind of a crazy, quick turnaround. So I think he's probably, you'd have to ask him, I'm sure he's probably excited to kind of settle in and get this offseason program, to really get some good work in, but also getting those teammates a little bit better."
Meyers wanted a new contract after posting his first 1,000-yard season in 2024. However, the Las Vegas Raiders weren't compelled to entertain his demand, so he requested a trade. They eventually caved and sent the former North Carolina Wolfpack to Jacksonville in return for a fourth-round pick and a sixth. Looking back, the Jags got lots of bang for their buck.
In nine games with seven starts, Meyers hauled in 42 receptions on 61 targets for 483 yards with three touchdowns. With the benefit of a full offseason, nobody will bat an eye if he doubles that amount in 2026.
Jakobi Meyers quickly established as a mainstay of the Jaguars offense
Jakobi Meyers quickly became one of Trevor Lawrence's most trusted targets in 2025. With him in the fold, the offense was able to work like a well-oiled machine. Having said that, the Jaguars have the potential to be even better next season.
Leaving aside that Meyers will enjoy a full offseason in Jacksonville, the passing game could be hard to stop if Parker Washington builds off his banner season and Brian Thomas Jr. bounces back.
This is a long-winded way to say that the sky is the limit for the Jaguars, Trevor Lawrence, and Jakobi Meyers in 2026.
