No Jacksonville Jaguars storyline has probably been discussed ahead of the 2025 season more than Trevor Lawrence needing to take his game to the next level. The former Clemson Tiger is entering a make-or-break year, and he'll need to deliver if he wants to put to rest questions about his viability as a top-10 quarterback. His biggest supporter believes he'll come through.

Nick Wright of FS1 believes Lawrence will bounce back and re-join the conversation about the best quarterbacks in the NFL, bringing up his 2022 performance as proof that he can elevate his game.

"It is a make-or-break year for Trevor. I have faith, and he's right. I like that. He's leaning into it, getting into my prime time to turn it on. And he knows the last year and a half have not gone the way he or any of us would have liked, because he was on such a great trajectory, and you guys hate this graphic. I'm going to show it anyway, because prior to him needing to be carted off, but then not having a cart, that's what he had done over a year and a half..."

Wright continued, "Give me the next graphic, Dust. How about just his 2022 year, second year in the league? Did you guys know he was seventh in league MVP voting, seventh in MVP voting as a sophomore? 30 touchdowns. Eight picks," Wright said.

What Wright is referring to is that Lawrence recently acknowledged that he's entering a pivotal year, pointing out that he needs to turn it on.

Colleague Chris Broussard points out that five of Lawrence's touchdowns in 2022 came through the ground. The panel then discussed whether running is part of Lawrence's game before Wright argues that the point is that the fifth-year quarterback has shown that he can play at a high level in the NFL.

"There's proof of concept is my point. It's not just, I'm not talking about high school or college. His second year in the league. Okay? If he does that, Brou... Bruce, what if this is his year next year, these numbers and wins a playoff game?"

The first overall pick in 2021, Lawrence struggled as a rookie but showed significant improvement in his sophomore campaign. Expected to solidify his place as a top-10 quarterback in 2023, he instead dealt with a myriad of ailments that hindered his performance. Looking to rebound the following year, No. 16 instead regressed and once again dealt with injuries. This time, an AC sprain cut his season short.

Now, Lawrence needs to show that the past two years weren't the start of a trend and is still the same signal-caller that took the Jags to the playoffs in 2022.

The Jaguars have done everything they can to help Trevor Lawrence

Trevor Lawrence is recovering from the shoulder injury he suffered in 2024 and the subsequent surgery he underwent to repair it. If he makes a full recovery, nothing is impeding him from bouncing back.

After 2024, the organization fired Doug Pederson and Trent Baalke and hired Liam Coen and Trent Baalke as their head coach and general manager, respectively. The duo then proceeded to build around their quarterback in the offseason.

Aside from beefing up the offensive trenches, the team's brass made upgrades to Lawrence's arsenal of weapons. On top of that, Coen should be able to get the most out of him like he did for Baker Mayfield during his lone season as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' offensive coordinator.

The ball is on Trevor Lawrence's court, and it will be up to him to prove that Nick Wright's confidence in him isn't misguided.
