The Jacksonville Jaguars lost 31-25 to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 1 of the preseason. But leaving aside the outcome of the game, their execution left much to be desired.
Couple that with the fact that the offense was sluggish in the second scrimmage of training camp, and Trevor Lawrence is fully aware that the Jags have their work cut out when they face the New Orleans Saints.
Trevor Lawrence embraces the opportunity to improve in the Jaguars game vs. the Saints
Trevor Lawrence met with the local media on Day 15 of training camp and said that he expects to play against the Saints, pointing out that it presents an opportunity for him and the rest of the team to improve.
Yeah, I expect to play, and that's the kind of mindset of the preseason is expecting to play, and it's always kind of variable, or whatever number of snaps. "You don't really know exactly what's going to be, but expecting to play," Lawrence responded when asked whether he'll suit up for Week 2 of the preseason. "I'm not sure if there's all today's practice water wouldn't change that. I don't know as far as what the coach is thinking, but I'm prepared to play. From always communicated to us."
Lawrence continued, "We're prepared to go and play a little bit, so it's just an opportunity for us to get better. You gotta take it for what it is and learn from it and watch the team. You can't be doom and gloom come game time because we had a rough practice. You gotta be able to bounce back, but we do have to clean stuff up. Some of the stuff showed up on camp, so we got to be deliberate on what we do to change it, do something different in order to get different results."
Lawrence himself fared well in the preseason opener, going 5-of-6 for 43 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions. He only played a drive, but there's a strong chance he'll spend more time on the field against the Saints since starters usually see the most action in Week 2 of the preseason.

Trevor Lawrence has the right mindset ahead of the Jaguars game vs. the Saints
All things considered, Trevor Lawrence has the right mindset. The Jacksonville Jaguars are coming off a pair of underwhelming seasons, and if they really want to compete for a playoff spot in 2025, they must put in the work. The fact that the team lacked execution against the Pittsburgh Steelers and the scrimmage shows they have a long way to go.
Lawrence is also right when he says that the team cannot dwell in the past and take things in stride. Whatever went wrong in practice or the preseason opener, the Jags must learn from it and try to correct it whenever they take the field.
Facing the New Orleants Saints in Week 2 of the preseason will precisely grant the Jaguars that opportunity to get better.
