Travis Hunter has officially had training camp practices as a wide receiver and as a defensive back. After spending the first two days of Jacksonville Jaguars camp solely on offense, Hunter practiced all defense on Friday. After a few more days of spending an entire practice on one side of the ball, the generational talent will soon start lining up on offense and defense in a given practice.

This is all a part of a strategic plan to make Hunter a two-way sensation in the NFL. The second-overall pick did it at the collegiate level, winning the Heisman Trophy in 2024 after dominating on both sides of the ball, and he’s confident he can do it on the highest level. However, Hunter isn’t expressing foolish confidence; he knows he has to work to replicate in the NFL what he did in college.

That's why he’s taking a special attention to detail in the NFL. After practice on Friday, the rookie spoke with the media and was asked what’s the biggest area in his game where he wants to see growth during camp. Hunter quickly answered technique, explaining that his technique needs to be sharp on both sides of the ball so the coaches can trust him by the time the season rolls around.

This is great self awareness by the young player. Coming into the NFL, the limited criticism Hunter did have is that he mostly wins with athleticism, and could be raw from a technical standpoint. While that wasn’t an issue in college, the NFL is a more technical game, full of technicians. That means Hunter needs to sharpen his tools and marry technicality with his athleticism.

To be fair, though, the rawness of Hunter, from a technical standpoint, may be a bit overstated. He has a good technical foundation at receiver and at corner. However, he knows it’s going to take more to place his name with the elites and corner and receiver.
