Top-notch prospects not named Travis Hunter the Jaguars must target in 2025 NFL Draft
Winning is great, but one downside of beating the Tennessee Titans in Week 14 is that the Jacksonville Jaguars lost their grip on the first overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Granted, there are four games left, but unless they lose the rest of the way, it's hard to see the Jags reclaim the top choice. That said, not everything is gloom and doom.
Following their third win of the season, Jacksonville is now slated to pick at No. 5. Sure, it's not a steep dropoff, but they'll likely miss on two-way superstar Travis Hunter. Given that they already have a franchise quarterback and a pair of edge rushers, the Jags might've taken Colorado standout first overall. But even if they stay at No. 5, they'll have a wide array of appealing choices.
With that in mind, here are three prospects not named Travis Hunter the Jaguars should target with their first selection in the draft.
Tetairoa McMillan, wide receiver
The Jaguars hit it out of the ballpark when they drafted Brian Thomas Jr. in 2024. However, their wide receiver corps could still use reinforcements. Gabe Davis wasn't able to hit his stride after signing as a free agent in the offseason, and Christian Kirk could be a cap casualty next year. Tetairoa McMillan will most likely be available at No. 5.
McMillan is the best receiver prospect not named Travis Hunter in the class. He has the size and enough speed to succeed at the NFL level. Add the fact that he can line up anywhere across the line of scrimmage, and he could give the Jaguars a dynamic duo alongside Thomas. You could make the case that his route running could use some work, but that's true for virtually most players coming out of the collegiate ranks.
Will Johnson, cornerback
The Jaguars have a lockdown corner in Tyson Campbell. Although he's dealt with injuries this season, he's lived up to the four-year deal worth $76.5 million that he signed in the offseason. Having said that, Jacksonville needs someone else to defend the opposite side of the field.
DJ Reed could be an appealing option in free agency if he's available, but if the Jaguars want to take the draft route to find a corner opposite Campbell, Johnson will be their best choice.
Johnson has allowed just touchdowns in his NFL career and none the last two seasons. On top of that, he's logged nine interceptions the past three years. Simply put, the Michigan standout would give the Jacksonville secondary a much-needed boost.
Mason Graham, interior defender
The Jaguars will probably dismiss Ryan Nielsen in 2025. But even if they don't, and regardless of who's their defensive coordinator, they must beef up the interior trenches even if rookies Maason Smith and Jordan Jefferson make a leap next year. Mason Graham will be the best defensive tackle available early in the draft, and an interesting choice at No. 5.
Graham will need to clean up his hand usage and play with a better stance. On the other hand, he may be the best defensive line prospect to come out of college in recent years, someone on par with Christian Wilkins, according to Matt Holder of the Bleacher Report scouting department.
