The Jacksonville Jaguars must be hyped out about Travis Hunter's breakout game as a receiver. After all, he was the lone bright spot in what otherwise was a humiliating loss to the Seattle Seahawks. But as good as the reigning Heisman Trophy winner looked, the Jags could still use reinforcements at the position.
Drops continue to be an issue, with Brian Thomas Jr. being the biggest culprit. Against the Hawks, Jacksonville had five. The total tally for the year sits at 21. For that reason, the team's brass should swoop and add reinforcements at receiver. The Tennessee Titans are about to make an intriguing option available.
The Titans are releasing Tyler Lockett, it doesn't hurt the Jaguars to take a flyer
Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the Titans are releasing receiver Tyler Lockett after he requested his release. He'll become a free agent the Wednesday after Week 7.
Lockett originally signed a one-year deal worth $6 million with the Titans in 2025. The expectations was that he would be a veteran presence and a positive influence in rookie quarterback Cam Ward's development. However, things didn't go the way he or Tennessee originally envisioned.
While the Titans as a whole struggled, Lockett wasn't necessarly making an impact. He had 10 catches for 70 yards this season and saw his playing time progressively decrease. By Week 7, his tally was 14 offensive snaps. The 11th-year veteran might not want to be stick around after Tennessee fired Brian Callahan.
A third-round pick in 2015, Lockett had spent 10 seasons with the Seattle Seahawks before he bolted for Tennessee. For his career, he's appeared in 168 games with 135 starts and hauled in 671 receptions for 8,664 yards with 61 touchdowns.
Tyler Lockett could help the Jaguars (without having to giving up draft picks)
There's a strong channce that Tyler Lockett has lost a step. Maybe that's why he might've failed to carve out a niche. Sure, the Titans aren't close to being competitive right now, but the blame can both go both ways. Having said that, the Jaguars should kick the tires on him and see what he has left in him.
The Jaguars currently have their BYE, so it is the perfect time to bring in him. By signing Lockett, they wouldn't have to part ways with the compensation they would need to give up if they traded for a receiver.
In Jacksonville, Lockett wouldn't need to be WR1 or even No. 2 option. Instead, he would come in to compete, push everyone, and provide depth. Even the reliable Parker Washington has had a few drops this season. Dyami Brown, on the other hand, has slowed down after a strong start to the season.
Couple that with the fact that signing Tyler Lockett fo rthe remainder of the year won't be cost prohibitive, and it makes sense for the Jaguars to at least give him a tryout.
