Without a doubt, two-way star Travis Hunter was the most talented prospect in the NFL Draft, regardless of position. That's why nobody batted an eye when the Jacksonville Jaguars traded up for the No. 2 overall pick to select him. Already, the 2024 Heisman Trophy winner has robbed the spotlight because of everything he does on and off the football field. Unfortunately, his arrival wasn't enough to help the Jags get more than just one primetime game.
Jacksonville only got one primetime game for 2025. It will be against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 5. Depending on who you look at it, they deserved more or less. On the one hand, they're coming off a 4-13 season, and routinely got pummeled by opponents. Who would want to see a blowout on Sunday or Monday Night? On the other hand, there's Travis Hunter.
Already, Hunter is the talk of the town. He turned rookie minicamp into a highlight reel and got a standing ovation every time he had a rep. But the West Palm Beach native also got lots of attention for his love of video games and fishing. But wait, there's more! He turned heads at his graduation because he was wearing pajamas with Jaguars logos under his gown.
And on his way from Colorado back to Jacksonville, fellow passenger Sandy Hawkins Combs posted about how great of a person Hunter is because he helped her throughout the flight and overall made it a pleasant experience. The fact that he's gone to bat for his Jaguars has also caught lots of attention. Why wouldn't the NFL want to see him on prime time TV? He's already a media darling, wouldn't you want him to get national exposure?
The Jaguars got more primetime games that the Browns, the Titans, and the Saints
The argument against the Jacksonville Jaguars getting more primetimes is that they're simply not good enough, and that's understandable. Do they have potential? You bet. The front office beefed up the offensive line, and the new coaching staff will make a strong effort to establish the run, something they failed to do the past two years. On top of that, Trevor Lawrence should be healthy for the opener. But as promising as the Jags look, they'll need to win games on a consistent basis to get top billing.
Moreover, the Jags should be thrilled that it will get a prime time bout, and it won't be on Thursday night like they used to get during the 2010s. At least got one, unlike the Tennessee Titans, the New Orleans Saints, and the Cleveland Browns didn't get any.
All things considered, the Jacksonville Jaguars cannot complain that they only got one primetime game despite the fact that they are coming off a disappointing campaign. If anything, it should motivate them to steer the ship in the right direction and get a couple more in 2026.
