The news that Trevor Lawrence would suit up for the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 13 looked great on paper. After all, they were 2-9 and in dire need of a spark. Moreover, having No. 16 behind center would increase the Jags' odds of beating the Houston Texans. However, the decision doesn't look great two quarters into the divisional bout.

The Jaguars only managed to score 13 points during Lawrence's two-week absence. However, they're not faring much better with him back in the starting lineup. Against Houston, he missed a few throws and was picked off by cornerback Derek Stingley Jr.

To make matters worse, Azeem Al-Shaair laid a dirty blow on Lawrence that made him, and a brawl on the sidelines unsued. The hit rendered the quarterback unconscious on the field.

If you're wondering what made it a vicious hit, Lawrence was already sliding, and Al-Shaair had a chance to evade him. Right after the dirty hit, right guard Brandon Scherff tracked the Texans linebacker to stand up for his quarterback and let him know how he felt about the whole thing.

The fans also wasted no time showing Al-Shaair how they felt about the cheap shot.

You could make the case that throwing stuff at players is uncalled for, but the truth is that Al-Shaair crossed a line. To nobody's surprise, he was disqualified for the rest of the game, alongside Jaguars cornerback Jarrian Jones.

All things considered, Lawrence was playing like someone who was dealing with a shoulder sprain before he got hurt. That said, he didn't deserve to be hit like did. The Jaguars will rightly get flak for exposing him to further risk knowing that he was already dealing with an injury.

While there's no doubt that his return gave the team a morale boost, expecting him to perform at a high level while dealing with pain may not have been realistic. And the cheap shot makes you wonder if it was worth it to let him play.

For his part, John McClain of the Texans official website says that he hadn't seen a hit as dirty as the one Al-Shaair laid on Trevor Lawrence in his 45-year career. McClain is a respected voice who has covered Houston and is a Pro Football Hall-of-Fame voter, so if he says it's a cheap shot, it is.

Mac Jones is in at QB for the Jaguars with Trevor Lawrence out for the game

Not long after Trevor Lawrence was carted off the field, the team announced on its PR Account on Twitter that he was ruled out with a concussion.

Mac Jones took over at quarterback and proceeded to put together a 14-play, 53-yard drive that ended in a field goal by Cam Little, to make it 6-3 just before halftime.

With Lawrence out for the remainder of the game, C.J. Beathard will be the primary backup at quarterback, but as the third-stringer, he can only see the field if Jones gets hurt.

The Jaguars will need to rally behind Jones if they want to keep their season alive. A loss to the Houston Texans would eliminate them from playoff contention. Head coach Doug Pederson will most likely give an update on Trevor Lawrence's status after the game. Stay tuned to learn more.

For the time being, everyone's hoping No. 16 is fine.
