Top 5 players under 25 on the Jaguars roster ahead of the 2023 season
The Jaguars have a core of talented veterans on the roster that should help the team clear whatever hurdles they face in 2023. Players such as outside linebacker Foyesade Oluokun, right guard Brandon Scherff and safety Rayshawn Jenkins should be able to keep the team focus if they run into adversity.
On the other hand, the Jags have a young nucleus of difference-makers that should help them win lots of games next season. What's surprising is that many of those players aren't one day over 25.
This begs the question, who are the best Jaguars players under 25 ahead of the 2023 season? For the sake of argument, let's keep everyone who's already 25 — Josh Allen, Luke Fortner, and Shaquille Quarterman — out of this list. Who would make the cut then?
No. 5 Jaguars player under 25 in 2023: Devin Lloyd, LB
Current age: 24
The Jaguars' 2022 draft class showed promises last season. Center Luke Fortner was a Day 1 starter while Travon Walker seemed more comfortable playing outside linebacker full-time toward the end of the season.
Also, linebackers Chad Muma and Devin Lloyd showed starting potential but if the Jags found themselves having to pick one, the nod would probably go to Lloyd, who's poised to bounce back after an underwhelming finish to his rookie campaign.
After drafting Walker first overall last year, they jumped back into the first round to take Lloyd, something they wouldn't have done if they thought he wasn't going to be available at No. 33, their original second-round pick. Lloyd got off to a strong start, registering six passes defended and two interceptions in the first three games. However, he was eventually benched in favor of Muma.
The good news is that Lloyd is ready to put last season behind him and focus on living up to his draft billing in 2023. He's flashed potential as a rookie, it's now time he shows more consistency.
