Rewind a year ago and the future looked bright in Jacksonville.

The stink of the Urban Meyer era had subsided after Doug Pederson’s first season in Jacksonville resulted in an AFC South title, a historic comeback playoff victory and a hard-fought loss to the eventual Super Bowl-champion Kansas City Chiefs in the Divisional Round on the road.

Jacksonville believers looked like they were proven right when the Jaguars started 8-3 last year before a brutal collapse to finish the regular season. Jacksonville lost five of its last six games, coughing up a commanding lead in the AFC South, and missed the playoffs completely.

Can the Jags get back on track? Oddsmakers aren’t particularly bullish on the Jaguars getting out of a loaded AFC.

According to FanDuel Sports, the Jaguars are barely in the top half of the league in odds to win the Super Bowl. The Jaguars are +3000 to win Super Bowl 59 ($100 bet wins $3,000). That gives Jacksonville an implied probability of 3.23% to hoist the Lombardi Trophy for the first time in franchise history.

The Jaguars are tied with the New York Jets as the 14th-favorite to win the Super Bowl. Standing in their way is a loaded conference that includes several Super Bowl candidates. Jacksonville would have to break out of a crowded AFC.

The Jaguars are the eighth-favorite out of the AFC, trailing the Kansas City Chiefs (+650), Baltimore Ravens (+900), Buffalo Bills (+1200), Cincinnati Bengals (+1500), Miami Dolphins (+2000), Houston Texans (+2500) and Los Angeles Chargers (+3000).

According to the odds board, Jacksonville will be an underdog just to make the AFC playoffs heading into next season with only seven spots available. They will be within striking distance of Houston to win the AFC South, though, with the Texans being 25-to-1 to win it all.

Quarterbacks make up the first 23 spots on the odds board for the AP 2024-25 NFL Regular Season MVP. The Jets and Jaguars even on the odds board to win the Super Bowl and their quarterbacks are tied for the 12th-favorite to be named MVP. Jacksonville signal-caller Trevor Lawrence is tied with Aaron Rodgers at +2500 to win the MVP award for the first time in his career.

In 16 games last season, Lawrence threw for just over 4,000 yards and just 21 touchdowns against 14 interceptions. He battled, and played through, a bad ankle injury in December. Lawrence returned in the regular-season finale after missing one start, but couldn’t rally Jacksonville past Tennessee, losing 28-20 to miss the playoffs.
