The Jacksonville Jaguars are sparing no expense to reinforce the defensive front. After selecting Maason Smith in the second round, they've added a second defensive tackle, Jordan Jefferson, with the second of two fourth-round picks.

A third-star recruit out of high school, Jordan Jefferson appeared in 55 games with 25 starts at LSU. He registered 90 total tackles, 21.5 tackles for a loss and six sacks.

Jefferson is the third player from LSU the Jaguars have selected in this year's draft. The first one was wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. in the first round. Smith was next with the 48th overall selection. Jefferson is the third. Here's the former LSU Tiger talking to the media after being drafted.

What should the Jaguars expect from Jordan Jefferson in 2024?

It was a bit surprising to see the front office double dip at defensive tackle, but this is by no means a bad selection. If anything, it's going to make everyone better. That said, Jordan Jefferson will compete for playing time with Maason Smith in 2024.

Given that the Jaguars have a pair of established veterans (DaVon Hamilton, Arik Armstead) ahead of them on the depth chart, Jefferson should be expected to have a rotational role as a rookie. If he wants to get a bigger role, he'll need to develop as a pass rusher. The tools are there. He's got the power and get-off to make plays but will need to work on his fundamentals.

What grade should the Jaguars get for drafting Jordan Jefferson?

Teams start to add depth and developmental prospects on Day 3. Having already addressed their biggest needs in the first three rounds, the Jags can target the highest-graded players on their draft board. It's fair to assume that Jefferson the best one left.

All things considered, Jefferson will add competition to an already stacked group of defensive linemen.

Grade: B
