The Jacksonville Jaguars are adding depth to their cornerback room in the fifth round. With the 153rd overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, the Jags select Deantre Prince.

Prince, a three-star recruit out of high school, is the second cornerback Jacksonville has taken in this draft. Previously, they took Jarrian Jones in the third round. Prince didn't get much playing time early in his collegiate career but started 26 games in his last two seasons at Ole Miss. Here's the Charleston Missouri native talking to the media after being drafted.

At 6'0" and 183 pounds, he's got the size and speed to play inside or outside. While mostly played zone, he can also play man coverage, which makes him a fit in defensive coordinator Ryan Nielsen's scheme. Shrine Bowl director Eric Galko has high praise for the Jaguars' newest member.

On a related note, B&T mocked Prince to the Jags at pick No. 153 early in the offseason, so Andre Cisco isn't the only one who's gotten picks right.

What should the Jaguars expect from Deantre Prince in 2024?

Deantre Prince will have a chance to compete for a roster spot and potentially a backup role. With Tyson Campbell and Ronald Darby entrenched as the starters, Prince will need to beat Gregory Junior, Montaric Brown and Chris Brasswell for reps in training camp.

While Prince has the speed to keep up with wide receivers, he must do a better job of tracking and picking up routes. Also, he needs to build consistency, something he struggled to do in college. He certainly has the talent but he'll need to work on the fundamental aspects of his game.

What grade do the Jaguars get for drafting Deantre Prince?

Cornerback was one of the Jaguars' needs entering the draft. They took care of it when they chose Jarrian Jones. They then added Deantre Prince, who provides depth to a position that was in need of it.

At this point of the draft, teams will start looking at potential gems. Prince could turn out to be one but there's an equal chance he'll be nothing more than a depth move.

Grade: C
