Jaguars preseason schedule 2024: Dates, opponents and more
The NFL announced the 2024 opponents for every team early in the offseason. They then released the dates for every game in the regular season in May. Along the way, they unveiled the list of preseason opponents for every team. We found out that the Jacksonville Jaguars are going to have two primetimes this year. We also learned that they were going to face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Kansas City Chiefs, and the Atlanta Falcons in the preseason. Now, we know when the games will take place.
While the NFL revealed the list of preseason opponents for each team when they released the schedule, they announced the preseason dates until now. In Jacksonville's case, they'll face the Chiefs in Week 1, the Bucs in Week 2, and Atlanta in the finale. Here are the dates for all three bouts.
Jaguars 2024 preseson schedule
• Preseason Week 1: Jaguars vs. Chiefs - Saturday, Aug. 10, 7:00 p.m. ET
• Preseason Week 2: Jaguars vs. Tampa Bay - Saturday, Aug. 17, 7:30 p.m. ET
• Preseason Week 3: Jaguars @ Atlanta - Friday, Aug. 23, 7:00 p.m. ET
Head coach Doug Pederson told the local media in May that Jacksonville and the Buccaneers will be holding joint practices on the days preceding their matchup. This gives players a chance to get out of the routine and test themselves against outside competition.
One thing that makes the preseason stand up from the regular season is that there are multiple games every day from Thursday to Sunday. Friday games in the regular season are rare outside of the Black Friday slate. Saturday bouts are only featured toward the end of the season. However, they're common in the preseason.
It's also worth noting that the league held four preseason weeks until 2021, when they added an extra game to the regular season. The only teams that will play four bouts in the preseason are those who will be featured in the Pro Football Hall of Fame game. This year, it will be the Chicago Bears and the Houston Texans.
Another thing to keep in mind is that wins and losses in the preseason don't count in the standings. More than anything, it gives players the chance to hone their skills or compete for a roster spot. It also helps the coaching staff evaluate and sort out the depth chart ahead of cutdown day.
