Wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. has stood out during offseason activities. However, Jacksonville Jaguars offensive coordinator Press Taylor believes the rookie wideout could still be much better in one key area.

Taylor told the local media on Day 2 of mandatory minicamp that he would like Thomas to ask more questions in team meetings, noting that the coaching staff isn't always sure if he understood.

"I think he's just really diligent," Taylor said when asked what Thomas has done right to acclimate to the NFL. "One of the things we're trying to get him to talk more, ask more questions. He's not a big talker. You're not always sure, you're searching for feedback. Are you picking up what we're saying? Well, so far, it's always translated over the field pretty good. So okay, he's getting in some way, shape or form. We want more out of him communication-wise, so we know what he's thinking."

"Does this make sense to you? How do you relate this for the most part, he just nods and looks at you and then goes on the field and does it right. That's encouraging, at least he's doing it right, not wrong, and you're looking for that but he does a great job. However, he's getting it whether it's from the meeting room, extra setting at night, carrying it over the field," Taylor said.

"He's done a good job of that so far, and we're just trying to exposehim to as much as possible so that if he misses a signal or misses an alert that was something real subtle in the huddle, it doesn't happen twice and with him so far, he's not repeating any mistakes. "

The coaching staff has been pleased with Thomas' development so far. The former LSU Tiger made plays in Organized Team Activities and picked up where he left off at rookie minicamp. On Day 1, he generally found ways to get open and had a would-be touchdown.

Similarly, he put his route-running and speed on full display.

Jaguars WR Brian Thomas Jr. is living up to expectations

With Calvin Ridley leaving in free agency, the Jaguars will expect Brian Thomas Jr. to step up right away. While he's a rookie, he's done everything he's been asked. Granted, he's yet to face press-coverage but he's done a good job of adjusting to the NFL.

It's worth noting that the rookie wideout has quickly developed a good rapport with quarterback Trevor Lawrence. In fact, the star quarterback is impressed with how quickly Thomas has learned the offense. They often connected during OTAs and rookie minicamp.

Lawrence didn't attend mandatory camp but Thomas has also done a good job catching passes from Mac Jones, routinely getting open even if he wasn't targeted.

The Jaguars had several paths to replace Calvin Ridley. So far, it looks like they chose the right one when they drafted Brian Thomas 23rd overall.
