Jaguars News: Trent Baalke is very far from being a clown
A lot of people are high up on the Jacksonville Jaguars right now. After the way that the 2022 season went for them and the other teams in the AFC South, their stock seems to be rising in every way. For the first time in franchise history, it looks like they have built it the right way.
Building it the right way means that there won't be a one-and-done. Long-term sustained success seems to be on the horizon for this team and that is a far cry from being a laughing stock as they have been for most of their franchise's history.
Who deserves the credit for this? Well, the easy answer is Trevor Lawrence. Thanks to some late-season luck (looking at you, New York Jets), the Jaguars ended up with the number one pick following the 2020 season which allowed them to draft Lawrence in 2021.
His rookie year didn't go smoothly for him but there were some bad decisions made around him that caused him to struggle.
Trent Baalke is actually a very good GM for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The man behind most of the bad decisions was General Manager Trent Baalke. They hired a bad coach and didn't surround him with the best players. That caused fans to despise their general manager in every way.
After that dreadful 2021 season ended, people would dress up as clowns which became Baalke's new nickname. They wanted him fired badly. He even received a clown bobblehead that he now keeps on his desk for motivation. Well, it worked because he has been anything but a clown.
The Jaguars fans that said those horrible things are eating their words now because, after the rough start, he has really turned it around. Lawrence took a huge step in 2022 and it is largely because of the moves made by Baalke to supplement his talent.
Now, Trevor Lawrence looks like a superstar quarterback in the NFL and is only going to get better from here. Baalke made moves to give him weapons which helped the team big time. Now, we will see what he does to build on that great 2022-23 run.
The team could use an improvement on the offensive line and the defense as the draft approaches. People can be excited about it knowing that their general manager is very far from being a clown.
