The Jacksonville Jaguars are doing what they can to improve their roster. That is going to include some big transactions throughout the off-season. This window of opportunity doesn't come around every year but it is here this year and should be there for the next few.

There are going to be players cut in the meantime to make room for upgrades. A transaction like that was made on Monday afternoon as the Jaguars announced that they have parted ways with Mekhi Sargent. He is a running back that is now no longer with the organization.

In 2022, he spent the year on the Jaguars' practice squad after bouncing around a little bit in 2021. He was an undrafted player that is trying to carve out a role in the league. That won't be with the Jaguars as he has been released.

As for running backs remaining on the roster, they still have Travis Etienne who is the primary guy as of right now. JaMycal Hasty, D'Ernest Johnson, and Snoop Connor are also still on the roster trying to stick around heading into 2023.

The Jacksonville Jaguars won't have Mekhi Sargent there in 2023.

You can't help but wonder if they try to bring in someone from the outside to try and help Etienne stay fresh. There are s few options out there that might be able to help them. You saw the running back position be slightly more impactful in 2022 so it might be trending that way again. We'll see.

It is unclear if Sargent will get another chance in the NFL. If anything, he can work towards making another practice squad and proving himself as a guy that can make a roster.

The Jaguars are not messing around. They want to win in 2023 and they are only going to have players around that can help them reach that goal. That includes the practice squad which could play a big role in case of injuries or other circumstances.

With the way that Trevor Lawrence has developed as a quarterback, having a good back will make it even easier on him. They are only going to have guys that can make a difference.
