Jaguars News: The defense carried them to a 5-0 October
The Jacksonville Jaguars made an ugly exit out of September. They were 1-2 in the games they played during that month. They still were clearly figuring some things out because they didn't even really play all that well in their first game of the season which was the one win.
Things changed for them in October, however. Doug Pederson really had his guys ready to go following that bad start to the season. On October 1st, this team was ready to win big.
Of course, the offense is expected to be great for this team because of their quarterback. However, it is their defense that has been the main catalyst for them in this five-game winning streak that spanned all of October.
The month started in London where they played the Atlanta Falcons. The defense only allowed seven points and the Jaguars won the game by a score of 23-7. That got them back to .500 and they were off.
The Jacksonville Jaguars are one of the best teams in the NFL right now.
The following week, they had to play a top-five quarterback in Josh Allen for their second straight game in London. The defense only allowed Allen to create three touchdown drives against them and the Jags won 25-20. It also was some late-game scoring for the Bills to make it look closer than it was.
In the third game of the month, the Jaguars completed a sweep of the Colts by allowing them to score just 20 points. That was the second week in a row that they allowed exactly 20 points. At this point, they are 3-0 in the month of October.
The fourth game of the month was a huge win for the Jaguars as they beat the New Orleans Saints on Amazon Prime's Thursday Night Football. The Jaguars had a commanding lead in that game but the defense broke down a little bit in the fourth quarter. Eventually, they did what they needed to do and won the game 31-24.
Giving up 24 to the Saints was the worst performance by the defense in the month so it could be much worse. It was also a short week against a good team.
To end the month off on a very high note, they only allowed ten points to the Pittsburgh Steelers and won 20-10. Their offense missed some opportunities to blow the game out but the defense did more than enough to win the game and they did.
It was a great month for the defense and they need to keep it going in November. They must be aiming for that playoff bye and they have a decent chance now. They can use this week, their regular season bye, to get everyone as healthy as possible ahead of the stretch run. It was a fun month.
