The 2023 NFL season didn't finish the way the Jacksonville Jaguars wanted. They had a firm grasp on the AFC South with an 8-3 record at the conclusion of Week 12, but then went 1-5 down the stretch to miss out on not just the division title, but the playoffs as a whole.

Still, with Trevor Lawrence at quarterback and a young roster, should they be the betting favorites to win the division in 2024? Oddsmakers don't seem to think so. Instead, the Houston Texans are being looked at as the premier team in the division heading into the offseason.

Let's take a look at the opening odds to win the division and then I'll dive into what the Jags need to do to re-claim the AFC South.

Jaguars have betting value to win AFC South

The Houston Texans enter the offseason set as the +190 betting favorites with the Jacksonville Jaguars coming in right behind them at +195. At those odds, the Jaguars have an implied probability of 33.9% of winning the division. A $100 bet on them to get the job done would win you a profit of $195 if they're able to achieve the feat.

After the Jaguars, the Indianapolis Colts come in at +240 and then the Tennessee Titans are set as the biggest long shot at +700 to win the division.

Don't let C.J. Stroud's rookie season for the Texans convince you that the division has already been decided in 2024. We have seen how good the Jaguars can play when they're at the top of their game, including when Lawrence threw for 364 yards in their Week 12 win against that Texans team.

Now, the Jaguars will get to play a second-place schedule whereas the Texans will have to play a first place schedule. They'll also be able to re-tool this offseason, including holding the No. 17 pick in the NFL Draft and getting a healthy Christian Kirk back to their offense next season.

If they can add some pieces to their roster and avoid the bad stretch of performances they had in 2023, the Jaguars have a great chance to re-claim their throne in the AFC South.
