Jaguars' dreadful start to Week 3 game helps Bills make history
If you think the Jacksonville Jaguars couldn't be worse after losing their past two games. You were in for a disappointment in Week 3. While the Jags had struggled to move the ball, the Buffalo Bills scored in each of their first three possessions. This is the sixth time they have pulled off the feat in the last 30 years.
Running back James Cook muscled his way into the Jaguars' end zone in the Bills' opening drive. Josh Allen then found tight end Dalton Kincaid in their second possession to make it 13-0. Later, Allen connected with rookie Keon Coleman on a 24-yard throw for his second passing touchdown of the game.
Meanwhile, the Jaguars have had trouble moving the ball. They reached the end zone on their third possession. They made a field goal, but other than that, they've been unremarkable. Heck, Lawrence threw an interception in the second quarter, and Buffalo wasted no time taking advantage of the gift. Five plays after getting the ball back, Allen got his third touchdown of the game.
In total the Jags have had four offensive drives. Two finished in punts. One led to a field goal and the other one ended on an interception.
The Jaguars are close to their worse start to a season since the Urban Meyer era
As of this writing, the Bills are up 34-3. While there's still plenty of time left in the game, it's hard to see the Jaguars bouncing back, let alone win. The truth is that they look underprepared and uninspired. And it shows in their play.
Against the Cleveland Browns and the Miami Dolphins, their defense gave them a chance. Not against the Buffalo Bills. Josh Allen has had no trouble finding his receivers. Looking back, it's kind of impressive that Jacksonville was able to beat the Bills last year. It was pretty much the same personnel with the same coach but they seemed to have a competitive fire that they're lacking right now.
Currently, the Jaguars don't seem in a hurry to win the game. Skill-position players are dropping passes (Brenton Strange and Travis Etienne), Trevor Lawrence's accuracy is off, and the offensive line cannot block. To make matters worse, there's seemingly no plan or vision on offense.
The defense isn't doing much better. They've already surrendered 27 points and have committed several penalties.
It's certainly frustrating to see the Jaguars underperform, so badly. It doesn't help that they helped the Bills make history. Things haven't certainly gone the way they planned when the season began.
