The Jacksonville Jaguars are officially a mess. After losing back-to-back games against the Miami Dolphins and Cleveland Browns, there was hope they could bounce back against the Buffalo Bills on Monday Night Football. The Jags had an uphill battle but winning was doable if they showed up and played. They didn't, and instead lost 47-10. All the growth they had shown under Doug Pederson has now gone out of the window, as Jacksonville is currently one of the worst teams in the league.

Pederson met with the local media after the loss to the Bills in Week 3 and conceded that the Jaguars aren't a very good team.

"I hate to say it, but the reality of it is this is who we are right now, we're not a very good football team, Pederson told the press corps. "We gotta get it gotta get it fixed. We gotta come up with some answers, and we gotta do it in a hurry to get going."

This wouldn't be an issue if the loss were an isolated incident, but it isn't. Jacksonville has lost eight of their last nine games dating back to last year and each has seemingly gotten worse this year.

Back in the opener, the Jags came close to beating the Miami Dolphins. They were even leading late in the third quarter before ultimately collapsing. Although they trailed the Cleveland Browns in Week 2, they did just enough to make you think that they could mount a comeback before time ran out. The loss to the Bills on the other hand, you knew from the very beginning that they were going to get pummeled.

Leaving aside the score, the Jaguars were unprepared and uninspired on Monday Night Football. The offensive line couldn't block. The skill-position players dropped passes and Trevor Lawrence didn't always make great decisions. On the other hand, Josh Allen feasted on the previously reliable defense, throwing four touchdown passes.

Now, the Jaguars find themselves in a 0-3 hole to start the season, and without signs of potentially turning things around.

What's next for the Jaguars after the loss to the Bills?

Doug Pederson told the media that they're going to look at the coaching and the personnel after the game.

"Well, I don't necessarily think you go in the opposite direction," Pederson said when asked if he'll stick to what he's been doing. "We invested a lot of time, but there has to be changes, whether it's play design, personnel, everything's on the table. Let's call it right. And those are all things that we have to, I have to look at. We have to look as a staff and make the adjustments."

Pederson is kind of right, but unless they don't make drastic changes, things won't change much. After all, how you can expect the same group that hasn't proven it can get the job done to suddenly start performing at a high level?

The coaching staff must bench players. They must also question their process ahead of game day. Coaching has certainly been an issue. The Jaguars brought back most of the core from last year with the expectation that they could build consistency. However, they've so far been underwhelming.

Can the Jaguars turn things around? You bet, but there's also a realistic chance they'll continue losing. Owner Shad Khan wants to win now and if he doesn't think Doug Pederson can steer the ship in the right direction, he must then move on from him as soon as possible and get off to an early start to his potential replacement.

The bottom line is that the Jacksonville Jaguars haven't given their fans many things to root for. Rightly, they deserve the flak they're getting and unless they turn things around, that will continue to be the case for the remainder of the 2024 season.
