Jaguars add several building blocks in full 7-round 2024 NFL Mock Draft
By Joel Lefevre
Jacksonville Jaguars draft Tatum Bethune
- Round 6, pick 212
- Linebacker, Florida State
A three-star recruit out of Miami Central High School, Tatum Bethune began his collegiate career at the University of Central Florida. As a freshman, he had an outstanding quarterback rating of just 53.5 against him, and became elite at making stops, with 22 of them in 2020 and upping it to 42 the next year.
Bethune transferred to Florida State in 2022, registering 40 plus tackles in both seasons and double digits in pressures. He has a great feel for coverage, can handle misdirection, and can come downhill quickly against the run while also chasing down receivers.
The forrmer Florida State Seminole doesn’t have the ideal length to handle the edge with average hand usage, so that’ll need to be cleaned up. All in all, though, for a sixth-rounder, there’s more good than bad.
Jacksonville Jaguars draft James Williams
- Round 7, pick 236
- Linebacker/safety, Miami
Out of high school, James Williams was the No. 1 safety recruit in his class, displaying a solid physicality and capability of handling himself on the second level. His size at over 230 pounds, though, made him well-suited to be a linebacker, and he’s transitioned into that role ahead of the draft.
Williams' impact in college was almost immediate. Starting as a freshman, he registered 162 tackles in his collegiate career, with at least one interception each year. He’s got strong hands, can close quickly on underneath routes with good body control, and has excellent sideline-to-sideline speed.
The fact that Williams' got the skills to play two key positions at such an elite level would make him an excellent addition to the Jaguars.
