Jacksonville Jaguars draft Christian Haynes

  • Round 2, pick 48
  • Guard, UConn

Back in 2018, Haynes was a modest two-star recruit, but he’s defied the odds. In 49 NCAA games, the Huskie gave up just 12 sacks and was twice named a second or third-team All-American, according to either the Associated Press, the College Football Network, or the Sporting News.

Haynes got elite timing, can uproot first-level defenders, and is a great run blocker. It’s no secret the Jags need to do a better job at opening holes for Travis Etienne. Haynes is likely to be on the table at No. 48 and could help in that department. He may not start right out of the gate, but you cannot pass up the chance to take a potential building block of his caliber.

Jacksonville Jaguars draft Bralen Trice

  • Round 3, pick 98
  • Edge rusher, Washington

The Jags may not have Jawaan Taylor any longer, but they get the 98th pick thanks to him signing a top-market contract with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2023.

Josh Allen knew how to get to the quarterback last season, registering 17.5 sacks, a single-season franchise record, while Travon Walker showed improvement with 10. Outside of those two guys, though, the Jags struggled to hurry opposing quarterbacks, finishing 25th in 2023 with 40 team sacks.

Trice is a two-time All-Pac-12 selection who was the defensive MVP in the 2022 Alamo Bowl and the 2024 Sugar Bowl. While he only registered six sacks last season, his all-around performance makes him stand out. He had 70 total pressures with the Huskies in 2023, including 49 hurries and 15 quarterback hits.

Even though Trice is somewhat raw, he has great mobility, can recognize a block, and is efficient at disengaging from blocks. Adding Trice to the pass rush rotation will make opponents think twice about double-teaming Allen, or Walker .
