Jaguars 53-man roster projection following the 2024 NFL Draft
The Jacksonville Jaguars have operated with a sense of urgency in the offseason. After addressing a handful of needs in free agency, they proceeded to round out the roster in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Many of the players the Jaguars have acquired over the last few months should have an impact right out of the gate. Others will compete for reserve roles but all of them will occupy a roster spot. This begs the question, how will the Jaguars' 53-man roster look come Week 1? Here's a projection.

Quarterbacks (2): Trevor Lawrence, Mac Jones
Trevor Lawrence is firmly entrenched as the starter but the front office made sure to bolster the backup position after he dealt with injuries in the second half of 2022. Right before free agency began, the Jags traded for former first-round pick Mac Jones.
In Jones, the Jaguars have a capable backup who can step in Lawrence's place if he has to miss time next season. Jones, for his part, will look to rebuild his stock after a pair of underwhelming seasons with the New England Patriots.
Jones has previously shown he's a capable signal-caller, making the Pro Bowl as a rookie. He's an upgrade over CJ Beathard, last year's QB2. Beathard has been a huge help for game day preparation but the coaching staff didn't appear to be fully confident in his ability to win games. Maybe that's why Lawrence pushed through injuries even though it was clear he was severely hampered. That won't happen again in 2024.
With Jones in the fold, the Jaguars may feel tempted to carry three quarterbacks into the season, but they could also release Beathard and sign him to the practice squad. If the Jaguars need him, they can easily promote him via standard elevation.
Trading Beathard may have been a possibility if Jacksonville had drafted a young developmental passer but they didn't, so he will stick around in 2024, even if he's not on the 53-man roster by the opener.
