No. 1 Jaguars trade offer for Chandler Jones: RB D'Ernest Johnson + 4th-round pick

The Jaguars have lots of depth at a handful of position groups, including running back. Besides Travis Etienne, who totaled over 1,400 yards from scrimmage last year, Jacksonville has rookie Tank Bigsby in the fold. A third-round pick in this year's draft, Bigsby showed starting capability in the offseason, averaging a jaw-dropping 5.7 yards per carry.

But Etienne and Bigsby aren't the only capable running backs on the Jags' depth chart. The team's brass gave JaMycal Hasty a two-year extension in the offseason and signed D'Ernest Johnson in free agency. In fact, the Jaguars are so loaded at the position that sophomore Snoop Conner was a victim of the numbers game and ended up in the practice squad.

The Jaguars could easily send one of their backup running backs and a fourth-round pick to the Raiders. You could point out that they no longer have a selection in Round 4 next year due to the Calvin Ridley trade and you would be right. However, they acquired an extra one from the New Orleans Saints on Draft Day.

Las Vegas was able to make amends with Josh Jacobs, the NFL's leading rusher last year, after wanting him to play the 2023 season on the franchise tag. Jacobs should have another productive season but the depth behind leaves a bit to be desired. Zamir White is currently the top backup and Ameer Abdullah is No. 3 on the depth chart. Neither one has shown they can be a reliable option in case Jacobs misses time with injury. Johnson would solve that issue.

Fresh off Jacobs' contract impasse, the Raiders must now focus on taking care of Chandler Jones. Trading him would achieve that end.
