Jacksonville Jaguars reportedly host Calais Campbell for visit: 3 takeaways
2. Calais Campbell can bolster the Jacksonville Jaguars D-Line rotation
The Jaguars have put an emphasis on fortifying their defensive front this offseason. Corey Peters said after the 2022 season that he's most likely done. On top of that, defensive end Arden Key walked in free agency and joined the Tennessee Titans. Although he rushed the quarterback from a standup position last year, he often played with his hand on the ground, so the team's brass needs to replace his production.
Even though Campbell is no longer the player he was in his prime, he's still got plenty of football left in him. He might not be a full-time starter but he can still be productive as a part of a rotation. Last season, he appeared in 62 percent of the Ravens' defensive snaps and there's a chance he could see his playing time decrease moving forward.
Back in 2017, Campbell signed a four-year deal worth $60 million but he won't command that kind of salary at this stage of his career. Perhaps he was unable to strike a deal during his latest visit to the Jaguars HQ because they couldn't agree on the compensation. So far, the Jaguars have refused to overspend and it's highly unlikely that they will change that approach with Campbell.
All things considered, a reunion makes sense for Campbell and the Jaguars, so they both have to be reasonable and compromise to get a deal done.
