Ranking top 6 quarterbacks in Jaguars history
By Ryan Heckman
4. Byron Leftwich
Back in 2003, the Jaguars thought they had the next best thing when they drafted Byron Leftwich out of Marshall with the 7th overall pick. He would go on to play four years in Jacksonville, and yes, that was good enough to land him fourth on the all-time passing list.
Checking in with 9,042 passing yards, 51 touchdowns and 36 interceptions, Leftwich had a fairly decent career with the Jaguars. It was about a lack of talent around him, along with injuries, that ultimately hurt his tenure. He did, however, boast winning records in 2004 (8-6) and 2005 (8-3).
His final season in 2006, Leftwich went 3-3 as the team's starter before missing the remainder of the season with an ankle injury that required surgery. Overall, his best season in Jacksonville came in 2004 when he threw for 2,941 yards, 15 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.
Leftwich would go on to play a season in Atlanta, one in Tampa Bay and then two different stints with the Pittsburgh Steelers totaling three seasons altogether. Nowadays, Leftwich has been a coach and coordinator, most recently for the Bucs before getting fired early on this year.
