Ranking top 4 free agent destinations for Josh Allen
By Ryan Heckman
After a breakout season with the Jacksonville Jaguars, pass rusher and Pro Bowler Josh Allen is set to become an unrestricted free agent.
'Plan A' is for Allen to be back with the Jaguars. I'm sure fans would agree that there shouldn't be a 'Plan B.' He should stay. Jacksonville would be foolish to let him leave.
However, if things go the opposite direction in negotiations and a long-term deal is ultimately not reached, Allen could either be given the franchise tag or sign with another team altogether. There's also the chance he is tagged and traded, but for the sake of this argument, let's look at some of the best places he could wind up signing as a free agent.
4. Arizona Cardinals
The Cardinals finished last season as one of the worst teams in football and own the no. 4 overall pick in the draft. Many believe that, if a quarterback is taken with the first three picks, the Cardinals will undoubtedly select wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr., as they should.
But, they desperately need help in the pass rush department, and that could be something they explore in free agency instead of the draft. As a team in 2023, the Cardinals tallied 33 sacks. To put that in perspective, Allen had over half that number by himself last season (17.5).
Since the departure of Chandler Jones, Haason Redick and even J.J. Watt, the Cardinals have been searching for another stout pass rusher. It's one of this roster's biggest weaknesses. For that reason, Arizona is in my top four.
