The NFL just approved several new rules and one that now allows players to wear the No. 0 on their jerseys. Wide receiver Calvin Ridley wasted no time and took to social media that he'll be the first player in Jacksonville Jaguars' history to wear that number.

"Excited to be the first Jaguars player to wear zero - shout out to the team's equipment staff", Ridley said on Twitter. His teammates also took to social media and let everyone know how cool it was. Trevor Lawrence joked, "Agent 0, I see ya", while safety Andre Cisco pointed out how fast the Jaguars' social media team was to the news, "Jags media cooked this quick asl, lmao".

There were many meanginful rules passed besides players permitted to wear No. 0. A significant one establishes just one preseason roster cut, from 90 players to 53, instead of two. Here's a list of other rules the league approved or tabled.

Calvin Ridley ready to make an impact for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2023

The Jacksonville Jaguars didn't make a splash signing this offseason and have instead focused on adding depth to their running back room and the defensive line. Then again, they didn't need to make any big-name acquisitions in free agency after managing to keep most of their own players from hitting the open market and trading for Calvin Ridley last offseason.

The Jags acquired Ridley even though he was serving an indefinite suspension for betting on football games in 2021. However, he was reinstated by the league in March and can now partake in any football activities with Jacksonville.

Ridley wrote for The Player's Tribute that he was broken down both physically and mentally when he stepped away from the game in 2021 and it looks like he's had enough time to get right. He's routinely posted workout videos of himself showcasing his great athletic ability. Back in 2020, he was one of the most dominant receivers in the league, hauling in 90 receptions for 1,374 yards with nine touchdowns.

Keep in mind that those numbers weren't a fluke. The Alabama product caught a combined 127 passes for 1,687 and 17 touchdowns the two prior seasons. If he can have that kind of production for the Jags in 2023, their offense should be among the best five in the NFL.

It will be a while before the Jaguars see what Ridley can do on the football field. For the time being, they're ecstatic he'll be wearing No. 0 for them.
