Jacksonville Jaguars land All-Pro edge rusher Khalil Mack: 3 trade proposals
2. The Jaguars can offer Chad Muma and a second-round pick for Khalil Mack
Linebacker Kenneth Murray is slated to hit the open market and the Chargers may have a hard time bringing him back. While Murray hasn't turned into the Pro Bowler Los Angeles expected when they made him a first-round selection in 2020, he's been an important piece of their defensive puzzle, and losing him would create a void. That's where the Jaguars could step in and offer Chad Muma as part of a package to acquire Khalil Mack.
Muma, a third-round pick in 2022, is stuck behind Foyesade Oluokun and Devin Lloyd on the depth chart. Although he got playing time as a rookie and fared well, when Lloyd was benched, he struggled last year when he was pressed into action. Unless Oluokun is released this offseason, which is not likely, it's hard to see Muma getting playing time anytime soon.
Ventrell Miller, a fourth-round pick in last year's draft, could challenge Muma and even get ahead of him on the depth chart this offseason. While there's a chance he'll eventually hit his stride, it may not make much sense to keep Muma around if he won't get a chance to compete in Jacksonville.
The fact that Muma still has two years left on his rookie deal could make him an appealing option for the Chargers to pair up with veteran Eric Kendricks. Meanwhile, the Jaguars could afford to move on from Muma. They could find his potential replacement in the third or fourth round of this year's draft.
