Jacksonville Jaguars acquire Lions CB Jeff Okudah: 3 trade proposals
2. The Jacksonville Jaguars trade Tre Herndon for Jeff Okudah
One potential trade scenario the Jaguars should consider is sending Tre Herndon to Detroit in exchange for Jeff Okudah. An undrafted free agent in 2019, Herndon worked his way up the depth chart and made a combined 26 starts in his first two NFL seasons. The fact that the Vanderbilt product outlasted coaches Doug Marrone and Urban Meyer shows how highly the Jags think of him.
Not surprisingly, Herndon signed a one-year deal in free agency, his third in a row. Although he isn't projected to start in 2023, he can come off the bench at any given time and line up either inside or outside. As a matter of fact, his versatility might have been a reason general manager Trent Baalke brought him back.
Having said that, it looks like Herndon has reached his ceiling, which is fine. Not every player can be a Pro Bowler but if the Jaguars become interested in potentially acquiring Okudah, they could offer Herndon. Despite the fact that this looks like a lateral move, this trade could potentially benefit both Jacksonville and the Lions.
After all, the Jags will probably take a cornerback with an early-round pick in the draft, which would take some pressure off Okudah's shoulders to deliver. Instead, he could sit behind and work on his craft while Tyson Campbell, Darious Williams and a rookie take the field.
Meanwhile, the Lions would add solid depth to their cornerback room. When you take into account that Okudah has been bumped down their depth chart, it makes sense for Detriot to acquire someone who might contribute in exchange for the former first-round pick.
