No. 3 Jacksonville Jaguars 2023 opponent that could trade for Lamar Jackson: San Francisco 49ers

Since the arrival of head coach Kyle Shanahan in 2017, the San Francisco 49ers have been one of the hottest teams in the NFC. They've appeared in the Conference Championship three times over the last four years and they even reached the Super Bowl in 2019. The fact that they've done it even though they haven't had stability at the quarterback position makes their success even more impressive.

The Niners acquired Jimmy Garoppolo in the middle of the 2017 season but he struggled to get healthy and has started one full season over the last six years, which is why they moved on from him this offseason. Similarly, they moved up several spots in the 2021 NFL Draft to select Trey Lance at No. 3 but he's also failed to stay healthy and could potentially be on the trade block.

Brock Purdy came off the bench last season and did just enough to help San Francisco get to the playoffs but he's not yet proven he's a franchise quarterback. The 49ers have a roster stacked with talent on both sides of the ball.

On offense, the Niners have playmakers such as Christian McCaffrey, wide receiver Deebo Samuel, and tight end George Kittle. On defense, they have defensive end Nick Bosa and linebacker Fred Warner. All they might need to possibly get over the hump get over the hump and possibly raise the Lombardi Trophy is a quarterback.

Shanahan has gotten the most out of every quarterback he's coached since his days as an offensive coordinator for the Washington Commanders and Jackson would arguably be the best signal-caller he's ever worked with. The 49ers' front office has always been aggressive when it comes to pursuing players they want (Jimmy G, Lance, and McCaffrey), so it wouldn't be shocking to see them make a bid for Jackson.
