No. 2 Jacksonville Jaguars player that was put on notice: K'Lavon Chaisson, OLB

It feels like critics have written off outside linebacker K'Lavon Chaisson since the Jaguars made him the 20th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. While he still remains on the roster, his stint with the Black and Teal might come to an end sooner rather than later.

Chaisson was pressed into action in his rookie season and the lack of talen around him might have affected his development. However, he got a clean slate in 2021 and he still failed to make an impact. Things didn't get much better with the arrival of head coach Doug Pederson and defensive coordinator Mike Caldwell last year and the former LSU Tiger once again struggled to make an impact.

You could argue that the team's consistent turnover has hindered Chaisson's growth but there's a point where players have to take accountability for their success or lack thereof and he has struggled to put it all together.

Heading into the 2023 season, Chaisson has a steep hill to climb to be part of the Jaguars' pass rush rotation. With Dawuane Smoot leaving, this could be the year Chaisson finally breaks out. But there's an equal chance that he'll get buried on the depth chart due to the arrival of rookie Yasir Abdullah and the potential signing of a veteran edge rusher.

Update: The Jaguars have declined Chaisson's fifth-year option, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, so he's now slated to become a free agent in 2024.

The Jaguars still haven't exercised the fifth-year option on Chaisson's rookie deal and it will be telling if they don't. The player known as Swiper will need to start swiping if the wants to remain in Jacksonville beyond 2023.
