Just like that, the 2023 NFL season is in the books. With the Kansas City Chiefs beating the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl 58, the next biggest event in the league's calendar will be free agency, which starts on March 13. Most clubs will try to sign their own players before that date, but they won't be able to bring all of them back. That will be the case for the Jacksonville Jaguars, who will have to make a handful of tough decisions in the upcoming weeks.

With around $11 million in the cap, they'll first need to release a few players and restructure a few deals to get a bit of breathing room. Once they check off that box, they'll need to begin re-signing their next players.

So which Jacksonville players are set to the open market in March? Here's a list of all their unrestricted, restricted, and exclusive rights pending free agents.

Complete list of Jacksonville Jaguars free agents in 2024

Unrestricted free agents

These are players who are free to sign with another team if they aren't under contract by March 13. They will then be able to negotiate with other clubs without restrictions.

  • Calvin Ridley, WR
  • Dawuane Smoot, DE
  • Josh Allen, OLB
  • K'Lavon Chaisson, OLB
  • Tre Herndon, CB
  • Tyler Shatley, OG
  • Ezra Cleveland, OG
  • D'Ernest Johnson, RB
  • Brandon McManus, PK
  • Jamal Agnew, KR
  • Angelo Blackson, DE
  • Matt Barkley, QB
  • Daniel Thomas, S
  • Shaquille Quarterman, LB

Retaining Calvin Ridley, and Josh Allen, will be the Jags' top priority. Maybe the team's brass will make an effort to retain Ezra Cleveland, whom they traded for in 2023. Besides those two, it's hard to tell who else will be back in 2024. D'Ernest Johnson and Brandon McManus signed with Jacksonville last year, they could both get one-year deals again.

The same is true for Tre Herndon, and Dawuane Smooth. Herndon and Smoot have been long-time contributors in Jacksonville and both of them signed one-year deals to return last offseason.

Restricted free agents

Restricted free agents have three accrued seasons. They can negotiate with other teams but their current club has the right to place a tender on them. There are three kinds of tenders: First-round, second-round, or right to refusal. If another team signs them, they'll then have to compensate the original team with the tender the player got. In 2024, the Jaguars have three restricted free agents:

  • Caleb Johnson, LB
  • Blake Hance, OT
  • Cole Van Lanen, OL

All three played backup roles last year and would need to compete for a roster spot if they return to Jacksonville in 2024.

Exclusive rights free agents

These are players who have fewer than three accrued seasons in the NFL. They can only negotiate with the team they last played for. They can be offered a one-year deal but if their current club doesn't make an offer, they will then become unrestricted free agents. The Jaguars will have four such players in 2024:

  • Tim Jones, WR
  • Jeremiah Ledbetter, DE
  • Jaylon Moore, CB
  • Gregory Junior, CB

Of the bunch, the Jags will probably bring back Tim Jones and Gregory Junior. The former saw an increased role last year when Zay Jones missed time, and the latter has improved considerably since becoming a sixth-round pick in 2022. Jeremiah Ledbetter was also part of their defensive line rotation last year and could compete for a roster spot in training camp.
